Weather RadarRain and thunderstorms are in the forecast of weather radar for the Erie region today, Sunday and Monday, the National Weather Service says. Today’s forecast includes a high temperature near 63 degrees. The low tonight will be about 53 degrees.Rain and thunderstorms could be in the region today between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and potentially again after 2 p.m. and into the evening, the National Weather Service says.

I have mentioned before that we often see birds at night when the radar is in clear-air mode, the highly sensitive setting that is used when there is not a lot of precipitation around. In fact, there is a whole discipline centered around this tool: radar ornithology. Well, we have our new coastal radar and I was wondering how the birds look from a coastal perspective and particularly whether our feathered friends like to fly offshore.

A combination of moisture, energy and wind may lead to a few strong or severe thunderstorms on Sunday, according to staff meteorologists at WQOW News 18. “This is definitely a ‘play-by-ear’ situation,” said Meteorologist Nick Grunseth. “The latest weather radar forecast models have been consistent, suggesting locations south of Eau Claire are at a higher risk of stronger thunderstorms. Still, everyone should keep an eye to the sky, just in case the incoming low and its warm front track further north.”

Since severe weather underground has taken over the weather conversation, I’ll remind you of an additional resource for you and that is my Twitter feed @fox4wx. Feel free to follow us for the latest in updates and well as radar images as whatever may or may not happen later today gets it’s act together and heads towards the region. There really isn’t any major update needed at this point. For those with late afternoon/evening plans I think the weather will cooperate as far as the Royals & Sporting KC go. The highest risk for DopplerMetro storms is probably well after midnight. We continue to be very concerned from NC KS southwards towards NC OK especially around the Great Bend/Salina/Wichita/Hutchison/Ellsworth area.
